Default Royal Engineers ' very flimsy'

Gents, whilst it looks ok from the front I believe, it is very flimsy and 'suspect'.

Any confirmation or otherwise welcome. Thanks chaps

Default

I assumed that this was attributed to a wartime economy issue, but my concern was how thin and bendy it is. I feared it may be a copy/ fake, if such were made of Royal Enginerts badges?
