We used to black out the Grenade's with weapon paint. I can't remember what the paint was called. REME chaps should know.

I find it difficult to believe that any regiment would go to the expense of purchasing blackened badges if their normal one wasn't simply for a few months wear on a deployment.. I remember when I was in training with the North Staffords and we were shown how to blacken badges on exercise by burning the foam rubber in ammo boxes and holding our badges in the smoke also with the cost of a few aerosols as opposed to manufacturers charges it doesn't ring true to me.

Hello Gents

Well I have discussed this badge with Griff briefly before. I have a blank slidered aa 'motto' in black which I found in a junk shop in HK in 2006.

As Colin states above, no doubt one of those commissioned in HK by the Regiment locally.

Regards all

Bess

The Factory Blackened AA is a genuine Gaunt produced Motto.... it has a * normal AA unmarked long slider * partner and also a short slider normal AA that "is" maker marked.

** Correction: Nickel plated long slider (45mm)

Right..... here you go, my mistake....it was the long slider (45mm) Chrome*. All four shown below have the same back image.

* The chrome is just a nickel plate and not actual chrome.... this one is also found painted black by the regiment, Phil [Lancer17] has an example and a letter of provenance from the regiment.
