Question 17th/21st Lancer veteran

When I saw this badge it was one I had to have, dented, over polished and badly repaired, but much loved by a man who cherished it.

Slightly larger skull than the ones I have and I would be interested in members thoughts.

The ‘V’ eyes I think they’re later, post war.

Albeit that one looks like it fought the war single handedly!

I didn’t know they wore collars in WW2. Is the photo dated Griff?

Great photo of the collars with his best BD. Cleary end of war or after wards. The additional of a tailored backing to the lapels is a nice touch and was originally done by officers as they wore ties. I have seen a few mid war photos with soldiers in ties and lanyards when in best BD and in off-duty best. The adoption of ties for all ranks at the end of the war saw many tunics being adapted as shown as well as being taken in for a better fit.

Several years ago I read an account by a 4th/7th Trooper who recorded that regimental funds (from memory sourced from selling off foodstuffs they 'captured' in France) paid for collars for every trooper and they wore then in 1945 on their BD. I would not be surprised if the 17/21 and others did not do the same: but looking at the style of BD with it's covered pockets, tailoring and accouterments it's possible that he is a post war Trooper and they are issued.

Chaps, while on this subject, could anyone tell me if the badge I purchased back in the mid 1970's from an antique shop in Lewes, Sussex, is genuine or not? Please see attached pics.

Default What the devil?

Hi , I am not specifically a cap badge collector, I just like to collect anything of interest that catches my eye. I bought this badge as part of a lot because I wanted some Manchester Regt. stuff, my fathers old unit. I believe this is the 17th Lancers but wondered what the dangling devil is supposed to be. Is it official or just something somebody has randomly stuck on it? Thanks for any help.

A trinket from Lanzarote......
The Timanfaya Devil

Another very famous and interesting thing about Lanzarote is also one of its symbols. The Timanfaya Devil is a figure standing at the entrance to El Diablo restaurant, inside Timanfaya National Park.
