Left is fake, middle and right are genuine. Personally I prefer the right hand example as I feel the horse has a better face. There is also a GM version produced from this die, my example is shown here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...27&postcount=4

I have seen badges from this die sold by Bosley’s, not that this necessarily means much as they make occasional mistakes.

I’ve seen two photos now which I believe prove the looped single piece badge shown in Gaylor and KK being worn, the second was closer up and clearer than the photo in this thread https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...ontgomeryshire . Previously this badge was deemed fake, when clearly it isn’t, due to the construction.

So personally I believe Dean’s badge is in with a chance of being a WW1 makers variation. That or an old fake no longer being produced. The black finish/plating is not original however.

Here is my RWK Yeomanry - Officers badge I assume that is missing one of four silver loops as a space filler until I find a good ORs - happy to hear of any spare and plenty of swaps or folding stuff available with postage within UK on my behalf, cheers Dean.

Hi Dean, white horse’s of Kent are a pain worn by Vols, Cyclists, Yeo, OTC, Schools, police, traffic wardens and lollipop ladies by all accounts. Your badge isn’t missing a loop, nor is it officer’s in my belief. I’ve always regarded this badge with 3 loops as an early one but not EKY. Keith Blakeman is a white horse aficionado so I’m sure he will correct me if I’m wrong and maybe has something to add on your looped badge.

My advice would be to seek a badge like that shown in KK and Gaylor.

The Yorkshire Hussars has now been swapped for a spare I have that as Luke has kindly advised is correct for 1914. It has a brass reinforcing strip to the rear.

You need to replace your Staffs yeomanry cap badge with this one, introduced just pree WW1 and continued in use into early WW2. Note cap on mounted Sgt wearing his WW1 trio of ribbons.

This badge mounted as a Sweetheart belonged to RSM J Freakley (Sgt during the war) from Stone Staffordshire worn by his Wife.

I collect to all services from Stone Staffordshire.

Thanks very much Stephen nice to see the actual badge and it being worn post war. The need to replace with a QVC period version has been flagged in this thread already and I am wincing as I parted with my QVC and IY period yeomanry badges when I focused on the 1914 sets. What's your take on why the regiment wore badges with a QVC at that time? I assume they must have had large stocks of that badge? Like Dean, I'm going to have to try and track down a QVC Staffs Yeomanry hat badge.

The pre-1908 I.Y. version of the Staffs IY badge was the plain knot in WM without a crown i.e. the same badge worn by volunteer infantry battalions of the South Staffordshire Regiment on the colla. Therefore the use of the QVC on their T.Y. badge was a choice made in 1908 (KC-era) rather than a case of existing stock.

Similarly the Oxfordshire Hussars also chose to wear the QVC and several different manufacturer variations of this are found so again it’s not a case of old stock being used up.

Shoulder titles nearly done just a Middlesex Hussars (MH) as a preference but TY CoL is still ok. Narrowing the gap with cap badges with Glasgow and Worcestershire to go. I have taken off my copies that were gap fillers. Thanks to a number of members and a former member for sourcing genuine examples of a few and guiding me on others. Thanks as ever to Longdog (Pat) for getting the majority to me, sourcing the TY Stafford and setting me straight on all things titles and Luke for his excellent 1914 yeomanry album and MY dragon.

This is really a Forum collection as so many have helped, thanks to all. I never imagined this was going to be so hard seeing as I posted my starting point back in 2017 and that was eight years since I started collecting again with the move back to this colony, cheers Dean.
