Dean, you need the earlier Ayrshire Yeomanry cap badge for a 1914 display, the one without the title scroll and torse.

Hi Dean,
Hope the little one, Anna and yourself are doing well and you’re not too sleep deprived! Like Hoot says the Ayrshire is wrong pattern, you want the scroll-less IY type for 1914. The white horse badge with a raised leg is not WKY ORs. Also the Staffs Yeo would in all likelihood have been the QVC badge in 1914. I have doubts about a few I’m afraid, when you’ve got some time drop me an email and if you want I’ll go through them. Cheers, Luke Last edited by Luke H; 16-10-20 at 09:21 AM. |

Hi Dean
It's going to be a cracking display when finished. Just a note on the Yorkshire Dragoons, I've a number of photos to do with them, 1914/15, the OR's are wearing a mix of the QO entwined blues collar as a cap badge, but mainly the smaller blackened rose badge, as attachment. Also the shoulder title is the TY type, either the separate TY on your title, or the one that's joined together, hope this helps. Best wishes Chris |

Excellent, a bit more work to do and of course, sadly, more expense, but, certainly a good start to a difficult task these days.

Hi Dean
An inspiration, just like your cavalry board. And you were putting this together with a new arrival on the way? You're a better man than I for sure. New daughter notwithstanding, if you do have a moment eventually, I'd appreciate a look at your Yorkshire Hussars. I've had three of these, none of which I've been happy about. I'm loathe to try for another until I'm absolutely clear on what features an original possesses. Especially the configuration of the jewels in the coronet. Thanks again for showing and also for stirring up some constructive criticism and advice which I'm sure will not only help you, but everyone with a similar interest. Mark |

Apart from FN other noted makes of YD badges are F.E. Woodward, Smith & Wright B’ham and Gaunt. My advice would be to steer clear of badges with the 5 central dots, vast majority of these are MM fakes. Lastly if you’re seeking a 1914 representation avoid the WM version as this is post WW2. Quote:

The 2 Ayrshire Yeomany badges in use in Ww1 were these two:
The scrolless one dates from the IY times and was replaced by the regimentally procured design in 1915. |

Thanks again all - shall rummage through my spares and weed them out. Looks like I may have a blackened YD cap badge and earlier Ayrshire. A TY for YD title wouldn’t go astray and sorry yes some are not yet correct for 1914 like Y Stafford. Cheers Dean

A couple of potentials - Ayrshire lacks the lovely taper to slider of yours Alan. Can always raid my Pals board for RWK ORs I guess. Yorkshire Dragoons ? 5th London ? for London board, cheers Dean

The LRB, YD and AY are all lovely genuine examples of the patterns worn in 1914. I particularly like that AY and its slider.
Bit confused re the RWK as it doesn’t fit into either the Yeo or London boards as both West Kent units (WKY & 20th London) wore different pattern badges? Notwithstanding it appears to be an officer’s badge. Cheers, Luke |

No worries Dean. The East Kent Yeo too shouldn’t be WM for ORs (they came in BB or GM), so it’s either an officer’s badge or a fake.
Probably easiest if you ping me an email of the board when you get the chance. Cheers, Luke |
