Hi Jo, Yes I saw one. I believe that they were for sealed patterns, but I don't understand why they were done in blue.

One of those questions that will remain a mystery I guess.
Thanks Jo

You learn something new every day!
Hi Bill,
Did not know that those Titles were produced here in Canada. It is great to learn something new. I have never been to the Archives and now realize it is a must visit for me. I attached 2 pictures of Titles that I think are the same example as the one we are discussing. It sold last year on E-Bay (not to me)for a ton of money and was advertised as being British made. I knew the Regiment had aquired Titles in Canada because you can just see a hint of them in my Grandfather's Company picture taken in Sussex N.B. (prior to them leaving for England in July 1941). Unfortunately there is no side profile to really get a good look at them. Bill or Jo do you have a picture of the Blue Chaudiere Titles...I would be very interested in seeing them. I certainly concur that there are a number legitimate title patterns for the war period and spotted this possible variant quite some time ago from this website http://pagesperso-orange.fr/stephane...chaudiere.html Best, Mike

Hi Mike, sorry to say that I have no pics of the blue Chaudiere title or I should say titleS because, the first time I saw more than one was at the 1987 Niagara show of the MCC of C or some other organization. They were in John Swan's showcases and,IIRC he had at that time at least three different.I think he may still have one, but I'm not sure about this. Maybe someone from the Ottawa area could give John a call ask him if he still has the one.

Hi Mike, Yes the titles in images 2 & 3 that you have imaged are what I believe to be the Canadian made first pattern. That backing is one of the characteristics of the pattern. This is one of the examples that contradict the rule about backing material and embroidery. Generally speaking, a backing that does not have the embroidery going through it is suspect of being repro. However, there are several titles that have backings over the embroidery that are not reproduction.

Hi Bill,
That info is really helpful and informative. The type of black material on the back of these titles somewhat resembles the back of the title I posted earlier as Unknown. I have been unable to identify it as to date and location of manufacture. I wonder if it is possible to have been made by the same Canadian supplier? Mike

Mannequins in museums
Be very careful of using what you see in museums as being the truth. In the pictures posted earlier in this thread there are some pictures of shoulder flashes and mannequins. If you look closely, one of the mannequins portraying a WW2 officer is actually wearing a post war 49 pattern battledress, so none of what has been put together is legit for the period it is supposed to be.
Quite often the original item is not available so museums will "create" an artifact for the purpose of their display. 99% of the poeple seeing the display won't know or care..... Dwayne |

Hi Dwayne,
I had not even noticed that about the Officer's battledress....great eye for detail. I agree completely about museum displays and the veracity of their artifacts/exhibits. Mike

Hi Mike, They are mounted right now, so it would be difficult to get an image. When I have to rearrange those pages I will image the back of the titles.

Has anyone acquired the movie prop Chaudiere titles or badges from "Le Deserteur" (TVA, 2008) for future reference?

I may have found the costume's designer phone number. She's from the south shore of Montreal.Let me see if I can get in touch with her ask about the titles used in the film.
