New Zealand shoulder titles
Hello all,
I’ve just received a rather nice 1943 Suits, Aircrew Blouse which has New Zealand nationality titles sewn on it. Are these contemporary with WW2 wear? Last edited by Rodovitost; 15-02-24 at 02:03 PM. |

The title shown is correct for an officer in the RNZAF or a New Zealander serving in one of the RAF squadrons who was serving overseas or who had returned home from active service.
They have a stores reference number of 22HN22 and are officially known as Badges, Identification, blue/grey, officers. They were introduced in August 1940. The use of when and where they were allowed to be worn went through phases. If you want to know more see page 332 of New Zealand Air Force Uniforms, Clothing, Badges and Personal Equipment 1923-1948 Barry |

Thanks, Barry. Great to know they’re likely original to the blouse.

New Zealand shoulder titles
Quote:
This is something I have wondered about...do New Zealanders serving in the RAF wear the "New Zealand" shoulder titles...in other words is it correct to see RAF wings and a NZ title? Thanks Jim |
