Royal Devon Yeomanry
Good evening,
I have seen Royal Devon Yeomanry berets with cap badges with and without black backing. Do you know when this backing was adopted by Royal Wessex Yeomanry squadrons ? Thank you |

RDY beret backing
D Squadron (Royal Devon Yeomanry) The Royal Wessex Yeomanry, this title designated 8th June 1979 wore a Red oval backing to the cap badge on the beret from about this time, could be earlier 1976 when part of Wessex Yeomanry and RDY cap badge introduced.
By 2010 the Red oval was worn on top of a Black square (from their affiliation to the RTR). When the New Royal Wessex Yeomanry badge was issued in 2014 the Red oval was no longer worn on top of the Black square. I believe that all the squadrons of the RWxY wore the Black square. The New (new) RWxY 2018, badge has a Black shaped backing. Tim |
