Hi Roy
Very difficult to resist the cef sweethearts.
I must sayi am very impressed and inspired by your framing of individual badges as pieces of works of art. Very lovely and a great idea.
all the best Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your kind words on my framing, if nothing else it keeps me busy . And I must say (repeating myself) I really do get so much more enjoyment out of these treasures by seeing them displayed. The 'art' gallery continues to grow and I will add to that specific thread for all to see as long as I'm not boring folks. What I lack in experience and knowledge I hope I make up for in enthusiasm.

I hear you regarding the Canadian sweethearts Dan, gosh at times it's all I can do to resist buying a couple, but then I collect too much as it is..

Well done again Dan, keep them coming.

Cheers, Roy.

Love the "cock" collars for the 143rd. Nice sweetheart Dan. Anything for the 122nd, 159th, 162nd, 228th or 256th in sweethearts?

Hi again,
I think i have answered my own original question concerning the 216 silver badge with the banner 'I ALSO SERVE'.
Reading the book 'The Bantams' by Sidney Allinson, a chapter which covers the the 143rd and 216th canadian battalions.
I will quote the paragraph concerning this unique badge.
'Lt Colonel Burton then came up with yet another recruiting gimmick. He had manufactured a miniature silver brooch engraved with a bantam rooster and the words , "I also serve". He organized a reception party and invited all wives and mothers of each man in the 216th. to meet the officers and be presented with a brooch. it was a good morale booster for the unit,"

No doubt deeply cherished by mothers and wives and proudly worn.
So probably a unique brooch in cef collecting.
a little history behind some of the badges in collection makes them so much more interesting
all the best Dan
