Post War Pegasus.
Hi,
This style of Pegasus is often touted as WW2 which it is not. However, Was it ever used post War up until the early sixties? Lock shows the blue and yellow version in his book. If any member has an item of uniform using this style could they PM me or answer in this thread. thanks in advance, Liam. |

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for that, however, my question was not about its authenticity but about the style/design and its use post War if any. |

If you are asking was the printed wartime type pegasus used post war, then yes it was. I would have to search for images.
I thought you were asking about the particular variant you showed.

Hi Jerry,
I have had post War BD with WW2 era Pegasus attached, its not the WW2 Pegasus I am interested in but any post WW2 use using the design of the one in the picture. WW2 Pegasus were used until stocks ran out. Lock states the Pegasus was used on BD until 1963 and on the jungle green bush shirt after that time so that's 18+ years of use after the War. So my question to members is, has any one evidence of the design in the picture ever being used post WW2 on army uniform? thanks, Liam. |

Pegasus
The following information has been abstracted from Files at The National Archives including WO32/18818, WO32/18822 and WO32/20566. The photographs are of original badges within the file.
03.02.50. Mention of 16 Airborne Division wearing the Pegasus FS. The authority for its use was unknown to Eastern Command. Printed specimen included for WO file as pictured. I hope this helps, Stephen.

At risk of repeating myself Stephen, no one used the design you show as it is a fake.
There is debate about a reverse weave pegasus used post war but you don't show that. As you said peggies were used post war, here is a group pic I just got from the 50's as they are all wearing 49 pattern BD blouses, but as to which exact peggy they are wearing it is not clear enough to tell, are they old wartime stocks still in use or a post war manufactured version.

Gerry,
If the pegasus FS I showed are fakes then they are fakes made in the 1950's! The photos come directly from the War Office file held in PRO, Kew. They were supplied to WO by the uniit concerned. Short of being a sealed pattern I don't think you can get better evidence than that which I have provided. They are genuine items. Stephen.

At the risk of treading in an area where collectors have such strong views I attach photos of three badged BDs with various versions of Pegasus.
