Default Lots of Unknown Cloth & Metal badges??

Hello,

From a collection I recently purchased of British & Commonwealth badges worn on the arm, these are the ones that I have so far not been able to ID.

No.1 - I know that the unit is Defence Electric Lights & Telephones but why in cloth? Usually seen in metal.

No.4 - Crossed Bren Gun & Bomb?

No.5 - Bomb Disposal are similar to RAF ones but not the same.

No.6 - NZ Home Guard? Cap badge, arm, something else?

No. 7. ALB in wreath, 2 piece?

No. 8. BFS ?

(No. 10 - Just Id'd it in OWEN no. 1753)

I do collect arm badges but may sell if not British.

Any help appreciated.

Phil,

Its a stamped out badge, not cast, with two brass lugs.

The rear looks more silvery than the front which looks brass.

regards

PS - Forget the above. Just dropped it in Silver Dip and its come up a stunning silver colour all over. Clearly a silver or silver plated badge.

Leigh,

Thanks for that, a search of Geoff Oldhams NZ badge book confirms you are correct. No photo but described at 10/80 on P.99.

Message also noted.

Thats the cap/beret badge then. My example is also silver plated.

I'm sure I've seen the search light badge before but in gold on navy blue......Australia sticks in my mind but will have to check.
Cheers

I don't think that the BFS wore berets at all just a RN style peeked cap. I did a inner German border patrol many years ago and that is what the BFS officer wore.

Keith,

Just found the treads. Thankyou for that.
So an unauthorised SSAF, WW2 Armourers badge in cloth.

A rare item!

Hi Phil,
It is SA and worn WWII in cloth by members of the Cape Garrison Artillery. One sold a few years ago along with a group photo of the CGR.

Phil,
I do believe it was authorised and I have seen it worn by RAF armourer instructors based in SA during WWII. Where I grew up, we had an industrial school for wayward boys on our doorstep. A few years ago I discovered that the school was originally built during WWII by the RAF and used as a training facility for aircrew, which probably included gunners and armourers. The training facility was handed over to the SA Government at the end of the war.
