Second row:

9. Clyde Navication. Maker "Ltd. RVH * Smith & Wright"
10. Very small Army Veterinary Service. Maker "Firmin & Sons"
11. ???? looks old. Maker "Doppelt V Vergoldet" (???)
12. Hibernian Marine School. No maker
13. "This I'll defend" ???? "Comyns & Sons * Dublin"
14. Bank of Ireland (as a client, I know institution well )

Last row:

15. ??? Maker "Gaunt * London"
16. ??? Maker "Firmin * England" Looks very modern
17. Royal Ulster Constabulary. Maker "Firmin * London"

Hello Phaethon

Your button number 1 is quite early and sought after. If you have a price in mind for one of them just pm me!

Button 8 with 41 is for The Welsh/Welch Regiment and seems to be an officers' mess waiters' button or a blazer button from the look of it. Might be wrong on that though, so a close up of front and back would help identify it. Even though it uses the pre 1881 number, if it is a mess waiters' or blazer button then it is probably later than this.

Button 18 Lothians and Border Horse Yeomanry is a nice button but not that uncommon and not worth a great deal, a few pounds only.

As far as I can make out none of the other, so far, unidentified buttons are military.

Hope this is some small help but if nothing else it will bump it back to the top of the page!

Regards
Roger

Does this cover the remaining ones?
4. Trinity College, Dublin
11. A button with a royal crown and a horse must be from Hanover.
13. a livery button possibly Macfarlane
17. another livery button, but I cannot read the motto

I agree with Cribyn on no. 1. In case it is for sale, please send me a pm.
Same for the Hanoverian button

Thank you very much! That's covers them all!
So, Trinity - is it something that OTC used or just regular university staff?

Hanover - from what period it must be then and who used it? German Legion? Moto on the button is "nec aspera terrent"

Here are few better scans of the No. 1 (Bengal medical Staff) button back. I need daylight to get better shots if needed. It is 2 cm (ca. 8 inch) wide button.
