Need help to identify badge
The attached photo is my Dad.
Can anyone identify the badges he is wearing and hopefully the unit they belong to. The date is 1940 / 41. I have his army file but it is not clear what unit he was on because he was moved around. When enlisted, he was assigned as Regimental Saddler, Auckland Mounted Rifles. On 2 May 1941 he was on the Horse De-mobilisation Unit at HopuHopu. |

In 1940/41 the designation would be: The Auckland Mounted Rifles.

Many thanks Simon & Henk.
Re-checking his file, it now makes sense. Yes, he was on Auckland Mounted Rifles. Henk, thanks for the link. Exactly what I needed. |

The Regimental Badges of New Zealand reference by D.A. Corbett has the unit designation as “The Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles” from 1927 until 1 Jan 1942.

I see that Wikipedia also mentions this designation. I think my information is derived from Regiments.org. Checking there there is an anomaly. In the alphabetical list of regiments it says The Auckland (East Coast) mounted Rifles, but on the page itself the (East Coast) subtitle is not mentioned. I will adapt my website. Thanks again. Improvement of the information depends very much on comments like this one.

Hi Henk
Thank you for your excellent website on the Regiments of... I have been searching the web for a while tracing the antecedents of the Gordon Highlanders. I wish I had found your site earlier as it explains the lineages beautifully. Thanks once again for your brilliant efforts and for the excellent and informative way in which you have presented the lineages. Cheers John |

You make me blushing.
Thanks for all the compliments. I am always glad when people have any use for it. Feel free to look around and copy what you want. Printing is a bit difficult because of the size of the pages. The only thing is that when I pass away, it will probably all get lost. Maybe it will be saved in the Archive of the Way-back Machine like Regiments.org.

The unit designation was the "Third Auckland Mounted Rifles" up until 1935 and then was designated the "Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles" when their headquarters was transferred from Auckland to Paeroa.
