Question Cambridgeshire badge on a disc

I have had this Cambridgeshire Regt badge on a brass disc for some years, the disc measures 67mm across and has small lugs N-S.

The badge is an original and has been attached very professionally, any ideas as to what it's purpose was?

Thanks for looking Rob

Rob, I’m guesstimating that a fixing pin might have passed though the stud holes. The plate then might have been attached onto a strap. Perhaps a uniform strap or horse furniture? Can’t tell how much clearance there is from the plate back to hole bottoms in the studs—that distance should give a idea if a strap or etc. would have enough clearance to pass under a fixing pin.

Best regards,
Jay

Cool Cambridgeshire badge on a disc

Thanks chaps for your thoughts, I don't think it is a helmet plate centre, possibly the lugs could have gone through a thin strap and a pin to hold the item in place, maybe for a bandsman's equipment strap.

Over the years I have studied many Cambridgeshire Regt photos looking for a clue as to the white metal Cambridgeshire Regt badge on the wreath which is supposedly a bandsman's badge without success, this badge has not appeared in any of the photos to my knowledge either.

Rob
