Default A/A Prince of Wales Collar

Can anyone give a firm id for this anodised aluminium Prince of Wales Feathers collar badge? It looks early with a very distinctive type of construction. Mike

I recently bought a pair of these, I assume the metal fixing makes them early but no idea for whom, royal wilts perhaps?

Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers). LANCASHIRE (PWV)
Was also worn briefly as a cap badge when the Lancastrian Brigade badge was taken down circa 1968-70 and before amalgamation with the Loyal Regiment to form the Queen's Lancashire Regiment in 1970.

Unique as an anodised collar badge with a brass lug.

There are 3 early versions of this collar, one piece, 2 piece and 2 piece with brass lug. The latter highly likely to be used in the PWV. As Tim says, the collar used briefly as cap badge on the primrose backing

I have a set with the Wilts Yeo too mate - I'm sure they are correct, but some one piece definately have an early feel to them, with a hollow back and 'may' be for the PWV. I think I have some Wilts Yeo collars in a firmin bag - I'll check and post later.

Bess

Many thanks Jerry, Tim and Bess for spot on id! An interesting little badge. If it IS the only a/a collar with brass lug, I wonder who made it? I too have another set of 1 piece collars which I have as Wilts Yeomanry and now wonder if they're correct. Would be interested to se yours Bess. Mike

Mike, attached my Wilts Yeo collars sealed in firmin bag - dated 3/7/06. Marked 'f&s' they have a fairly flat relief on the rear. The more 'bulbous' one piece pairs we have, I believe are earlier and in fact my ones are gold on the back and unmarked. I think yours may be gold on the rear too?

To add even more confusion, they are not to be confused with the Kings Royal Hussars collars - VERY similar but present as a much simpler and plainer badge. Hold the 2 types together and they are immediately distinguishable. Marked FIRMIN on the rear and very thin and less relief.

I would suggest the brass lugged type are a little early to be contemporary for the RWY in my opinion.
