QOY Still doing it now with the change from Squadron buttons to silver domed. In my opinion flat silver buttons, stamped with the fox would have been slightly better.

Lt Col Spedding made one fatal mistake. He ordered the Regiment to remove its ancient and traditional collar badges and buttons. This upset the Regiment. Officers and Warrant Officers volunteered for other duties. Capt CN McAndrew joined No 1 Commando. However the Regiment just managed to cling together. " Note from me: by the late Summer of 1942, Lt Col J Spedding RA relinquished command to Lt Col W Bedford. I don't know if the latter was an Ayrshire Yeoman but the Regiment sailed off to war on 14 Nov 42 as a unit of 6 Armd Div. Illustrations in the book show the large size badge being worn by Officers of 152 Fd Regt RA on service dress caps whilst a photo of the RSM, a BQMS and two BSMs show all wearing a collar badge sized badge on their berets. Speaking as a former (Surrey) Yeoman, I feel that Lt Col Spedding should have known better than to meddle with dress regulations in a Yeomanry Regiment!
Thanks Mike,
Yes, I read this as part of my research, not the best move on the CO's behalf!
The collar badges were worn on the beret by OR's of 152 RA, picture you described attached. The collar was also worn on the khaki FS cap, attached is an AY OCA members Dad, 151 RA.
The Officers of 152 RA appear to have worn a bullion badge on the beret, but that would be a different thread, work in progress.
Cheers
Chris

Default Consolidation

Hello
Just looking back at our thread, it's a little all over the place, which I like, because of the collaboration of like minded people trying to get a subject right.
So I'm going to consolidate it.
I'm going to use the badges just from my collection on one photo, the couple I haven't got I'll use other photos.
I'm also going to change the numbers, as that's a little all over the place also.
Here goes....

Top row, left to right,

Badge one, Imperial Yeomanry badge.
Circa 1902-1916
First two badges, one on loops, earlier example, and one on a slider.

Badge two, Bazaar made badge.
Circa 1916-to possibly 1917

Badge three, cut and shut badge.
Circa 1916-1920's

Second row, left to right,

Badge four, War Office 1916 badge.
Circa 1916-1920's
(Not pictured, just a blank space, see other picture)

Badge five, Large 'of' badge.
Circa 1920's to 1960's
First example of this badge, second in the row, solid chin, earlier example.
Second, is ex Keith Hook collection, no solid chin, on loops.
Third, 40's or 50's on a slider.

Third row, left to right

First badge in the row is as above, badge five, (no picture, see other pictures)
It's the Bi metal example, more on this on my notes after this.

Badge six, Small 'of' badge.
Circa 1940's to early 1970's
Second badge in the row, early example, third badge in the row 50's/60's.

Badge seven, Anodised Aluminium.
Circa 1960's to 1971
Firmin

Forth row left to right,

Three badges as above, all anodised,
Smith & Wright
Dowler
Gaunt

Badge eight, PRI badge.
Circa 1960's to 1990's

I think that's that, hopefully!
Notes.
As the Bi metal badge has really come to light on this thread, I really do think it must have been worn, WO's maybe, there is a solid chin type, that says to me it's quite an early one?? Gaunt small mark is 40's, and large font Gaunt 50's.
I'm going to put more study into this badge, and will post my findings on this thread.
There is a JR Gaunt London marked PRI pattern badge, I'm wondering if this is a 60's early PRI badge?

Thanks all again

Chris

Gents, really interesting thread!
To add my examples - my anodised set and what is a fairly rare Op Herrick 'patch' (body armour, helmet etc) for Herrick 19. Local Afghan made I believe, velcro backed - dont see them often.

Regards all

Bess

Thank you Bess.
All gold anodised collars, they're unusual.
Love the patch, had no idea of its existence, they must be really few and far between, as only a few Yeomanry soldiers get attached to various units on op tours.
Cheers

Chris

Default New arrivals

Hello
Three new arrivals yesterday, very pleasing.
Different dies to the two I already have.
Middle and bottom are the same die, one is on a slider, the other on loops.
Top one is a similar die, except the right wing, there is no void between the ear and the wing, and the head is slightly bigger than the other two.
Cheers
Chris
