Default Early Windsor Regiment title

Here's a picture of an early issue Windsor Regiment (RCAC) cloth shoulder title. It's on a uniform that has king crown rank badges on it. You'll notice a dash between the Windsor & Regiment that is not present in later issues. I'll post some other examples at a later date.
Cheers,
John

Thank-you for that John. I am in the midst of researching and writing up a history of the cloth shoulder title in the Canadian army, and this is a new one to me. Is that photo yours?

Very different from all those variants described in Don Sexton's book (53a - 53f). What date would the version illustrated here have been worn?
Mike

Not sure of the exact date, but if it is an early title, it would not have been issued until at least 1949.
With this example, there are three distinct Windsor Regiment post war battledress titles. And there are minor variations of each major pattern.

Bill and Mike, that picture (which I took yesterday just before posting) is on a battledress uniform that has king's crown WO2 rank badges. So it must date from between 1949 and 1952. Having said that, there is photographic evedence that the Essex Tank cap badge was worn well into the 1950's, probably to deplete the stock of the badges.
I will photograph the other Windsor titles that I have for you guys and post the pictures, probably tomorrow.
Cheers,
John

Hello John, As you note, it is quite possible that the kc WO2 badges were worn well into the 1950`s. And, it is likely that the title did not come into wear until well after the unit re-designation was authorized.

Here's three photos that I scanned from the book "The Black Beret: An Illistrated History of the Windsor Regiment (RCAC)". You can see the Windsor Regiment title with the Essex Tank cap badges with the years that the photos were taken.

Hi John, Is there a chapter or section in the book about their insignia?
The dates are a great help to narrow down the period of issue.
First, in the first image, can you see if the titles have the dash between the Windsor and Regiment? In the second image, the unit is wearing the pattern I have shown in the second image. In the last image, dated 1957, they are wearing the "THE" type with the little tab above. That it the type I remember seeing when I was in cadets/militia in the late 60's early 70's.

Great collection.
I always like it when collectors choose a regiment/corps, or collect by formation. It really does help "tell the story".
Thanks for posting that.
Would you consider doing an album with descriptions of each badge?

Phil

Sarge, nice collection. My dad spent 32 years in Essex Regiment (Tank) and Windsor Regt. I have a few badges and a ER forage cap that he wore.

Hmmm, Tom, I thought that you'd have more stuff than a few badges.
How is your Dad, these days? I have a few badge/uniform questions for him, if he's up to it.
I think that the last time we saw each other was in Afghanistan, at New Canada House. We missed you at the reunion. How are things on the rock?
Cheers,
John
