Mis described as it is not a Pals or Service Bn badge

Best wishes

I see that a lot, in one way or the other as regards descriptions......... what is the status for real, of the un-voided Manchester badge.

Simon
The badges are from a three lots sold at Special Auction Services 21-22nd November.

There’s quite a bit more to come still.

See here for a solid BM badge with attribution: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...t=7339&page=10

Agree with Simon that these aren’t Pals or bespoke Service Battalion badges, simply an example of wartime corner cutting manufacturing.

There are a number of regiments with WW1 era badges made with less piercing than the sealed patterns specified. These include Dorsets, Welsh, Devonshire, Manchester and Suffolks.

I have posted pictures here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...hp?albumid=396

I would suggest they are the results of wartime subcontractors lacking the skilled workforce and/ or time to fully pierce the badges. One should not forget that cap badges were sold commercially so would not necessarily be of the s/p standard if they were sold from a canteen or military outfitters.

You can add the Royal Irish Regiment to the list Alan.

Feel free to use my pic in your album. Badge from the same die is shown in Wilkinson’s first edition.
