Update and pic
Hi All
A little less than in the past however there were a few highlights one being able to view Williams Military Cross and Silver wound badge collection, well done William. Purchased a nice Victorian medal group, an early SA Artillery badge and the sort after book South Africa's Fighting Ships Past and Present by Allan Du Toit, a book I missed out on when it was released in the early 1990's. Attaching a picture of 3 BBF members enjoying a "cold one" on a warm Transvaal morning. For the record from the left William, Brian and Iain. Always nice to meet a fellow members. Regards Brian |

Hi all,
it was a good day, a lot of interesting stuff, I picked up a few little things that I was looking looking for. Will's presentation was excellent. It was good to meet Will & Brian and have a beer with them on a glorious () Tvl winter's morning. You other guys (inc Alex,) must try to make it next year. regards, Iain

Some how your idea of a winters morning just doesn't fit with my understanding of a winters morning....

Well now I am happy my family moved to South Africa and not Canada. We had a very cold few days last week in Rustenburg. We had sleet the one day last week. This was the first time in over 50 years. Regards Andrew

It is still winter here but today its going up to 23 degrees
Jim is that a gas braai, (BBQ) under all that snow? Do you use the braai to melt the snow so you can use it? I must admit we've had a cold couple of weeks; the day it snowed it only went up to 4 degrees regards, Iain

Yes... that's a BBQ under there.... You'd brush the snow off the BBQ before you start because that much snow melting would cause trouble.... melted snow turns into ice .... I don't BBQ much in the winter as here it can get pretty cold... the propane gas doesn't flow from the tank very well ... takes along time to heat up... you have to go out to check what's going on...
All that said there are guys here that do BBQ all winter.... |

P.S. At plus 4 C everyone here would be outside in T-shirts.... our usual is
-20 to -40C for months on end.... Plus wind chill..... |

Jim, I was just teasing about your gas BBQ; I should have said do you have to light a fire underneath it!
Most winter days here are warm enough to BBQ, just when a cold front comes through then people hide indoors, lol. If we hadn't made other plans we would probably have a BBQ this Saturday as the current forecast, (for Joburg,) is 20C. (+ that is!) They call 1st September spring day and a lot of people dive into their pools but the water is usually a chilly 16C. -20 to -40 is a bit serious........have you thought of emigrating?
