Canadian 1st Tank Bttln badge
Hi guy's,
I just bought this one on e-bay and was sure it is an original one. Now looking through the MBF projects of CEF and canadian post 1920 badges I suddenly aren't so sure anymore. Can anyone help me? Thanks Jan |

Hello Jan, It puzzles me that the collar badge would have a slider fastener.

I've seen quite a few of these over the years and they are made with original collar badges. Could these be beret badges for tankers? Cheers, Ian.

Hi guy's, many thanks for your responses. It indeed puzzles ma quite a bit.
The seller has sold it to me as a beret badge. He bought it from autioneer Wallis and Wallis. Any more idea's? Jan |

Hi
Cannot comment on the badge/collar itself but Military use of the beret in the British forces was not authorized until 1924 with the intro of the black beret for Armoured forces and Canadian armoured soldiers did not wear black berets until 1936-7. 1st Can Tank Bn was long gone by then.<idea> regards Darrell

Thanks Darrell for that piece of information. I was already digging into sources trying to find when the beret was taken into use.
My puzzlement has now turned to concern. IIRC, the 1st Tank Bn was raised in Canada, and references indicate that the badges are either Hemsley or Tiptaft. Does anyone have the cap badge pattern with a slider?

Hi, probably late with this but these badges suddenly appeared in the late 70's at the time the were thought to be genuine but too many appeared. They may be based on an original collar, but the only collar I have is different in that the title cartouche only extends along the top and bottom whereas the slidered version has a complete cartouche. Maybe someone has an original collar in this version? Mike

Hi, just to continue this. Has anyone a collar badge with the complete cartouche as appears in the slidered version? The 2nd collar also doesn't have a complete cartouche, I don't know if there was a 3rd. Mike

Here we go again.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2708506260...84.m1436.l2649 went for 52 quid, rather obvious these badges have no sign of lugs having been removed from collars. Bill. Last edited by mtrpltpara; 20-11-11 at 11:21 PM. |
