Default Middle East Regiment

Hi Everyone

I wonder if anyone can help me with this. Attached are two photos of my grandfather (he's the one with the cross above him).

Can anyone identify the regiment of these guys? I know nothing except that my grandfather died in 1927, aged 45, so the photos were taken some time before then. Clearly they're taken in the middle east somewhere. I'm hoping this will lead me to his service records in due course.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

BrianS

My first thought was possibly 'The Life Guards'.

Looking at these photos I does not seem likely that they show your grandfather if he died in 1927 aged 45. The men in these photos are around 20 so if it's your grandfather they must have been taken around 1900 and the uniform details are completely wrong for that date.

I would agree with Marc that they could be Life Guards but I'd suggest that they show men of the regiment in Palestine in around 1940 whilst serving there with the 4th Cavalry Brigade which was at that date still a mounted regiment.

Sorry if that contradicts family history!

Jon

My first thoughts were late 1930s/1940s by the shorts and shirts. Possibly Palestine but could be Egypt.

If it was 1920s then I would expect to see Foreign Service Helmets and not those peaked caps.

The Bandolier suggests horses so not mid-WW2 or later.
