Default The saint

While watching an episode on the Italian campaign of the world at war for the umpteenth time something jumped out at me, there was a knocked out sherman with the saint stickman on the side, I was just wondering if both brothers used the saint on their tanks.

Andy, Forgive me on being ignorant about Tank people or the ?programmes about the Italian Campaign - though it sounds interesting.
Who are the brothers and what is the significance of The Saint (apart from the 1960s TV programmes) ??

Default The Saint

The Saint - a character invented by one Leslie Charteris - was the apparently ageless hero of a long string of popular novels and films from the early1930s to the early 195os. He was then reincarnated for more film and of course, TV. His logo - the haloed stick figure - appealed to the military. I'll probably be corrected but I believe the tie of the then Alpha Troop, 40 Cdo RM depicted the saint stick figure, simply because a one-time A Tp Comd (or later, A Coy Comd, was surnamed Charteris (no relative).

RAF use, aircraft, Mae-wests, etc... I have a pair of early, official issue, WW11 black leather flying boots with what appears to be a crude example painted on, along with 'HB' and faint service number inside on pullers.............love to know the history.
