ww2 RAF Cap Peaks
Please excuse me if this has been asked before, I'm sure it has but I have done a search without any success.
The underside of an RAF Officers peak cap was green during the war but can someone please tell me when it was changes to the same as the top of the peak, ie the Blue. Cheers Kev. |

I thought officer ranks below Group Captain were totaly material covered back then as now. Do you mean that you think Group Captain and Air Rank cap peaks were covered like that at some time also? I think 'scrambled egg' would look strange on a material covered peak. A number of king's crown badged caps come up as images if you 'Google' Group Captain Cap. Regards, Paul.

There is no definate date, it depends on manufacturer. I have seen wartime caps (certified with provenance) having a cloth underside to the peak, as well as post war caps having a green underside. Its true that after the war it was more common for officers caps to have a cloth peak, but there is no one date or year it happened.
Airmens caps continue to have green undersides to this day. |

So there were officer's caps with cloth peaks with green undersides? Does this mean cloth sown over the top of a black peak? Any links to an example? Regards, Paul.
