Default Lion and Coronet Cap or Collar Badge of a New Zealand Unit?

Could someone tell me what this little item is please?
At the time I bought it I thought it was likely to be a New Zealand badge from having seen similar badges shown in threads in the past.
It measures about 28mm high X about 27mm wide.

Thank you - I had an idea I'd seen it or similar in NZ threads.

It looks like the older British Railways cap badge to me. Am I showing my age?

Hi

The badge is a collar badge of the 1st Wellington Battalion (NZ). The cap badge is approximately 45mm high. In 1911 the NZ Army was reorganised and the 1st Battalion became the 5th (Wellington Rifles) Regiment and retained its original badge. Following WW1, the badge was redesigned to include a bottom scroll. Your badge is from the pre 1911-1920.

Cheers

John

G'day Leigh

Yes it is the NZ Wellington Regt.

Have a look at the site for Military Memorabilia Ltd in NZ, their item B06/056, its listed as a collar for the 1st Battalion Wellington Regt at NZ$25.00

Regards Phil.

Hello, thanks - I'd seen that post, it added a bit more confusion for me as it seemed to add additional possibilities, these are interesting little badges.
