Norfolk cadet
These two photos dated 1971 appear to show a norfolk cadet wearing a brass badge with the tablet below. If that is the case , it is likely to be a small version of the Britannia/ tablet badge, something until now we have never found out what it is for. Your comments please before I dig deeper. Thanks Andrew
Bye the way , if you have the small type on a tablet please post a photo. |

For 1971 I would expect it to be the post WW2 reduced size Royal Norfolk beret badge in brass or a/a with a torse rather than the tablet. It may be a trick of the light.

It would be nice if it was this one in brass as it would explain why it exists.

In the photo the trident clearly looks to protect from the outline of the badge, yet, on all the tablet versions I’ve seen it’s closely annealed and very close to Britannias helmet.
Interestingly the trident does not appear to project out enough to be the standard beret badge. Could the badge be cloth? |

Good call - which would explain the square patch behind it.

The proportions on the badge in the link looks correct. Not ones I’d seen before, thanks.

I would tend to agree with Luke that maybe it is cloth. But difficult to say. Interesting photos.

Is it a version of this which is silk woven?

I have released that the smaller Britannia on the tablet all face the wrong way to be a cap badge.

The trident top is always on the shoulder of Britannia on a metal tablet badge. |
