Default Northumberland Hussars for consideration

Chaps, looks nice but I'm unsure - recent acquisition.

Northumberland Hussars with the small JR GAUNT LONDON mark on the slider.

Thoughts on authenticity and rough time period- WW1, 30's, WW2 ?

Thanks in advance

Bess

Sorry but 1970s or later as that is a fake mark.

A genuine badge.

The later (post war) Gaunt badges are stuck in WM and have the large font 1950s London mark.

That's why i don't like it. Brass badges are early ones and as such not Gaunt marked.

‘Earlier’.

They were still worn in GM during and shortly after WW2 to my knowledge.

The WM badges as standard were later, post WW2 and Gaunt used the same die. Earlier WM badges were worn only on full dress it seems, both my examples of the latter have loop fixings.

Never have I ever seen a WM Gaunt example with anything other than the large mark suggesting this one was earlier and had fallen out of use by that point in time.

The 11mm Gaunt mark with a dot is found on several WW2 pattern badges. There are many threads with it dotted about, no pun intended.

I dare say it was the 11mm mark that likely served as the inspiration for the dreaded 15mm?

An identical mark is certainly found on the Royal Norfolk Regiment badge.

Tonyb’s example in this thread alongside a Firmin badge.

The change of pattern dates to 1937 so thereafter.
