Wehrmachtadler questions
Hi, everyone -
This Wehrmachtadler wandered into the museum yesterday and as near as I can tell from the link below, it's a Kriegsmarine Officer Coastal Artillery Eagle (see fourth row under Kriegsmarine Breast Eagle heading). https://www.germandaggers.com/Gallery/BE.php My question: Is it possible this could be a General Officer's Heer Breast Eagle? Everything I've found indicates a Heer General's eagle would be gold bullion, not embroidered. However, could this embroidered version have been a late war cost/production measure for Heer use? |

I think you have identified it spot on, the Generals wreath are a different design when you look closely.IMO

Thanks for your input, Jerry. The reason I though officer is that in hand, the thread is definitely more gold than yellow.

I think with the navy some of the eagles look quite golden, and I think the coastal artillery is always a more golden colour. for officers I would expect the fine metallic woven wire type or full on bullion embroidery, similar to those I show, though sadly I cannot find my old archive of items, but here are some km tropical eagles to show the colours used

Thanks for the examples, Jerry. I think the key for my enquiry is that the badge is Kreigsmarine. My officer claim was simply based on the comparable image found via the link in my first post.
Cheers! |
