G'day Jack,

I identify the two round colour patches as 2/31 Bn AIF, my uncle's unit.

All the Best
Phillip

The cloth patch at lower part of photo, (flaming sword surmounted by colours) is that of SHAEF authorised by General Eisenhower march 1944. Found in Jon Mills “BADGES on BATTLE DRESS” Vol.II. I only collect Artillery patches but Jon’s two volume set have been worth their weight in gold for me. Surely, if you collect British cloth, these are the books for you! Regards, D.J.

The SHAEF patch looks to be felt made, and so might be British made. Most US ones, if not all, I've seen were embroidered. Over here a US made one is not an expensive patch of about $3 to $7, but a British made usually brings a higher sum.

If it was an airborne patch they start around $75 and just go up, with a Type 8, 101st fetching $1,500-$2,000 now. I sold mine about 10 years ago for $1,200.

Terry
