Default Un-Identified Chevron

I acquired this small black and red chevron from ARTY yesterday. Both of us are at a loss as to what it is. Both Gurkha and Life Guards has been suggested, as well as Army Apprentices School, as the construction is the same as for AAS chevrons. It is small, only being 7cm wide (2 3/4"). (See comparison with standard L/Cpl chevron in the pic). Any ideas? And of course thanks in advance for an answer.

I have Green on maize and black on rifle green, in this size, I have seen the green on maize ones being worn by the Light Infantry on shirt sleeve order in the 1980's. I assume the black on green one was worn by the RGJ during the same period, yours IMHO is from the descendant battalion of the KRRC so one of the RGJ battalions but it escapes me at the mo which one although I want to say 2nd Bn.

Further to this post. I am currently reading "Army Apprentices Harrogate" by Col Cliff Walters, a history of that AAS. On page 71 a quote from A/T/RSM David Gardner (later Colonel R. Sigs) in which he states:
". . . . within four weeks of joining the school I was selected to be a senior apprentice. . . . This entailed wearing a half stripe . . . . removed. . . . at the end of the first term."
This was at the beginning of the '60's, so are there any ex Harrogate boys out there that can verify that my small chevron is the aforementioned 'half stripe'?

Certainly not in the early 80s. You also couldnt get a promotion of any sort until half term of your 2nd term. This was very unusual. End of the 2nd term was more likely.
My initial thought is that it could possibly be 2GR mess dress. They wore black on red rank badges until they ceased to exist.

The construction looks like the older sort of tape on felt backing. So id say KRRC is also a possibility

I used to work for Colonel Cliff. He had the affection of wearing a US combat jacket and belt with DPM trousers after he had served with the US forces somewhere. as he was the Regimental Colonel at the time no one was going to pick him up!

Here are sealed patterns of black on scarlet chevrons. These are first 1960 patterns and made from tape on scarlet melton. Manufacture was soon changed to fully woven types.

I think that the small chevrons posted by the OP were from 2nd Gurkha Rifles with tropical dress pre DPM. Worn in Brunei and Hong Kong and made up by the battalion tailors shop, as so many things were back then.
