Tom, your second King's badge is very common and genuine. It was worn / made between 1926 and 1950 as WO Pattern 10042/1926. It probably has another rectangular braze hole behind the slider.

(It was superseded by Pattern 14312/1950)

Your first King's Lpl badge was WO Pattern 4362A/1896. There were 50,00 Kingsmen to be badged during the 1st WW. This 'Pattern' was therefore made / worn between 1896 and 1926 (and superseded by your 1926 badge).
I have defined 22 dies of the 4362A Pattern and yours is what I have called 1896/Die 14. (I have four examples - all identical to yours)

It has a vertical shank rather than loops which appeared before the war but made before the the mass production in 1916-17 as it has the fine features of the original dies though:
healthy horse, a good mane, three part tail, slightly humped scroll, voided hind legs and the rounded tabs (on the reverse of the scroll brazed to the 'ground') later ones were pointed.

It is not the most common die but definitely genuine made by an anonymous manufacturer.

Not keen on the Suffolls. It is the 19081-6 TF badge but the BP named slider makes me suspicious of it.

The Bedford, Devon, East yorkshire are all brass and thus the 1916 economy designs.

Thank you Alan.

Can anyone please confirm or deny Alan's suspicion of the Suffolk badge? Thanks!

That appears to be a nice old example.

I would replace that, it appears to have been crudely repaired at some point with the lead all over it's reverse.

I don't really like either of the Norfolk badges or the West Yorks. Also agree with Alan on the Suffolks.
Brittania looks wrong on the Norfolks and the tabs for the scroll on the West Yorks look wrong.
Cheers,
Alex

I agree, suspicious of the two norfolks, the suffolk and the west yorks. The W Yorks has a modern looking slider too.

Taking stock:

Good:
Irish Guards (Andy)
The King's (KRL)
Kings's (KRL)
Bedford (Alan)
Devon (Alan)
East York (Alan)
King's Own (Frank)
Cheshire ww1 (Frank although condition not good due to repair - atleast that is my interpertation of it)

Bad:
Suffolk (Alan and Phil)
Norfolk ww1 (Alex and Phil)
Norfolk ww2 (Alex and Phil)
West York (Alex and Phil)

No opinions on:
Cheshire ww2
Buffs
Queen's
Yorkshire PoW

Gentlemen Thank you for these opinions. I would very much welcome some additional opinions especially on the badges that have not received any: Cheshire ww2 era, Buffs, Queen's and Yorkshire PoW. Thanks!
