Default Royal Winnipeg Rifles blackened badge

Not an expert by any stretch, but I had never seen a blackened badge for the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. Can anyone educate me on this? Is it an officer's badge? Any help appreciated!

From the wear on the highlights it looks like the badge is brass? Could you post an image of the reverse of the badge?

Hi Bill,

The badge is permanently and tightly attached to a service cap, but here's the best I can manage. It appears to be copper or bronze.

Thanks for posting the image of the back of the badge Dob.
A reference identifies these blackened copper badges as early (1937-1940ish) other ranks. (GO 25/1937).
