Default The Welch by Smith & Wright LTD

A recent pick up. I don't have the big book of AA badges but from looking at Chris Cuniffe's website he has an example listed as an unofficial commission. It has a tapering slider and seems to show clear signs of being worn.

Hi Jerry,
The badge is good, a nice early Smith & Wright makers mark.
Well done!
Regards
Colin

Hello Jerry,
A very nice example, I wonder who wore it, were they actually worn beyond 1969?
Regards Frank

Not as far as I am aware, once amalgamated with the borderers that is I assume the end of use.

Hi Jerry,

Chris is right in that this badge was knocked out as an unofficial commission but the one you are showing is genuine and an early Smith and Wright piece.

Regards,

Chris

Thanks for commenting Chris. I was happy it was a good one but having bought some of the iffy gaunt die unmarked examples (cheaply as examples) I wanted a correct example to add to my collection.

Mark is F E Woodward who were a WW1 manufacturer. The style of the mark is wrong, so a spurious mark on a spurious badge. One to avoid IMO.
