Default Ceylon Artillery

£256 for a Ceylon Artillery badge with a Gaunt tab on ebay last night. Is this a particularly rare Ceylon badge or can I put a down payment on a holiday cottage in the South of France on my meager collection of other Ceylon badges?

I've been looking for a good UK made artillery badge for a while (along with the Railway Engineers Regiment), but I'm now resigned to the fact that neither ain't going to happen soon. What's it with colonial badges right now?

Congratulations to whoever bought it.

Yours disappointed,
Mark

Those are nice badges, any chance of a view of the rear.

Never seen a WM Ceylon Artillery badge before.

Here you go Simon
Had to get the old scanner out as the new one doesn't scan depth.

From left to right

Top
Ceylon Mounted Rifles (1906-38)
Ceylon Engineers GVR
Ceylon Light Infantry (1881-1949?) (locally made?)

Bottom
Ceylon Planters Rifle Corps (1900-49)
Ceylon Sanitary Corps (1917-1920?) (Gaunt tab)
Ceylon Cadet Battalion (1902-49)

Quite right.

Cox has it as the 'Sanitary Corp' which he states was a Ceylonese unit of the ASC in Mesopotamia in WW1 . Whilst McHenry & Kellock just have it as Ceylonese Army Service Corps Ref 4604.

McHenry & Kellock's Empire's Waggoners is obviously the reference to use for the ASC & RASC and now that I have their book I will need to update my own references to suit.

Cheers

Hi Tony
Ouch a resurrected 2015 thread - that really makes me feel old. Yes, your Ceylon ASC is very much from the same Gaunt stable. A nice find.

I haven't been able to add any more to my lot though as prices always seem high.

I had to laugh - I was browsing upcoming auctions yesterday on thesaleroom and Lockdales have the Ceylon Cadet Battalion badge - that's the one with the stags head and antlers - listed as camel corps. David Attenborough's not turned up at Lockdales then...........
