It looks okay to me, just heavy dirt and verdi gris on it.

I had one of these years ago and got rid of it as I was told that very distinctive slider style came from a maker of repros of rare badges, territorials, etc.

Not one I would be happy with. It's not a match for the type that has sold in the past through Bosleys or the type shown as a passed down family badge on the GWF some years ago. We cannot say for sure that only one maker variation was made, I don't know if anyone has researched that, only that this is not the accepted OK version. Regards, Paul.

Compare it to the originals shown in these threads...

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...Guards+machine

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...GUARDS+machine

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...2&postcount=13

Note the quality, crispness of the border edges, the fine voiding and detailing of the cypher with the raised and defined edges. Also note the profile of the crown from the reverse, originals have a slight bump from the jewel each side. The badge pictured lacks these and badges like this are regularly available on eBay.

The reverse on this badge also has a burr and the edges appear thicker than originals. The colour to me looks more like chemical ageing with ‘stains’ on the slider rather than a similar patina.

The 3 originals all have near identical sliders in their shape, length and attachment point. The badge pictured has a longer slider which appears slightly thinner and is also attached higher up.

The devil really is in the detail with these ones as the repros are very good.

I can see the " U " fault on Guards, but other than that i cant see a problem ? If this is fake i make it the 3rd pattern of fakes knocking about ?

Crown on a good badge (hopefully Paul doesn’t mind me using his pic) v’s this wonky one.

I would only seek an example from the same die as the ones in the linked threads. Sadly the repro-ers often like to have numerous cracks at some badges.

More than 3 I should think Andy. The badge posted at the start of this thread just isn't the one generally thought to be good and looking back that seems to have been the case since the forum started. Regards, Paul.

Awful, send it back for a refund, if it was sold as original.
