WWII Brigadier /Colonel Cap or Beret Badge ?
Hi Team
I have a WWII era padded Brigadier or Colonel Rank badge,5cm in hieght. I'm unsure what this was used for, Officers Cap? This along with several other insignia came from a WWII Kiwi returned serviceman, which I will be posting. Padded officer ranks during WWII were they private purchase? cheers for the help Phill |

Could be either cap or beret; the former for mounting on the red Staff band, the latter directly on the beret. An officer of this rank would be expected to buy his accoutrements from a tailor. Nice example.

Most kind of you. Thank you.
I spent 10 years studying WW2 Brigadiers for my PhD, so I've seen a few! |

Thanks Staff/Cbuehler
Its quite a well made detailed padded example. What further interest me is that Im wondering if this was made in India or what is now Pakistan as the black paper backing is all too familiar to US patch collectors regarding reproduction of elite WWII "Blazer" style units that were produced from the 70's and onwards with a similar backing. thanks staff glad to know it meets the criteria of a PHD study!!! It is not Pakistani make. I have seen all sorts of backings on British bullion and black or natural colored paper is common.

They all have a "padded" crown to some extent. There are a wide variety of small variations; as to be expected for a badge that was in use from 1902 to the 1950s.
There is no way to date your badge with certainty, but WW2 era is most likely. CB
