Default RASC OTC really?

https://www.regimentalbadges.com/en-...dge/prod_22037

Anyone know which OTC had a RASC section? Most had Infantry, there were RA sections, the odd cavalry one (Oxford) and even a Signals one at Oxford. But never in any Army List I have seen is there an RASC section.

Alan, OTC's are not "my thing" but the Dublin University OTC (DUOTC) apparently had an Army Service Corps section. The DUOTC Handbook of July 1913 (as quoted in "A Military History of the University of Dublin and its Officers Training Corps 1910-1922" by Roger Willoughby) quote the composition of the OTC as,

An Engineer Unit - One Fortress Company
An Infantry Unit - Three companies of infantry
A Medical Unit - One Field Ambulance section
An Army Service Corp Unit - One transport and supply section.

The Sgt Instructer of the ASC unit is listed as one Coy Sgj. Maj, G.J. Carter.

As an aside, I have a hard copy of the publication but I see an e-copy has been made available on-line if anyone is interetsed.

That is enlightening. I had been looking at the WW2 Army Lists as the cypher is George VI so had not looked at the pre 1922 ones. I will have to look at some other post 1937 ones and see if I can find another ASC section. I can't imagine it was over subscribed!

There are several mentions in "The Story of the Royal Army Service Corps 1939-1945" "Bell".

It mentions a RASC training centre and the RASC OCTU initially at Bournmouth, then Clifton College, and thence Southend.

Thanks. The attribution is specifically to a University rather than a Officer Cadet Training unit. However the logic of the erased motto is still lost on me.

Having just read EJ Martin's list of OTC collar badges which he compiled in 1937 there is neither any mention of a ASC section (he lists all the other types) nor any mention of any collar badge such as this. I wonder if it is actually an Imperial unit hence the lack of RASC title and motto.

Apart from the fact that the design clearly follows that of the RASC there is no other indication that it has anything to do with the RASC at all. No title scroll, no wording, nothing at all, so a rather pointless badge to my mind. Why any one would want to shell out £150 for a "Nothing" collar badge is beyond me but I'm sure there's someone who will.

The Oxford Uni Engineers based on the Royal Engineers badge retains the order of the garter motto, as does the Dublin badge shown above by BC.

So I think Alan’s suggestion of an Imperial unit could be on the right lines.

Whatever it is it’s undoubtedly a rare badge but £150 for a single collar is pure madness.

Not RASC but Medical Corps, described in Military Historical Society Vol XXIV No94 Nov 1973
Page 52 "Medical Element of Cambridge University OTC"
And a photo from my collection.
I also have the afore mentioned RASC badge.

Think the missing word is "University"
