22nd Armoured Brigade 1981 to 1993

I am looking for photographic proof that the formation badge of a Red stag on a blue background was worn by members of the 22nd Armoured Brigade between1981 and 1993.

There are plenty of the badges about.

Before 1991 and the Gulf War badges were not worn on combat dress. there were exceptions for Para Regt DZ patches and the AMF. The Brigades in Germany did not wear them when I was there in 1992-3.

I got mine from some one in the Brigade in the late 1980's it was the first merrow edged badge I had ever seen.

Being in Hohne from 1985-1993, I concur with Alan that no 22 Armoured Brigade formation Arm Badge were worn

I was stationed in Celle from 1978 to 1981 and made regular visits to units in Hohne. I have a vague recollection that the sign was worn on the jersey heavy wool by some 22 Armoured Brigade HQ personnel, perhaps only for a brief period?
It is certainly the case that Formation Signs were not supposed to be worn by BAOR units on dpm combat jackets.

You could be correct = Worn by staff within Brigade HQ . But definitely not by the major units in Hohne Garrison during that period 85-93 .

In the late 1970s the BAOR Brigades became briefly “Task Forces” as part of the reorganisation of 1st British Corps. This was unwelcome and ‘not a success’.
In 1981 they were reinstated as Brigades and there was a push (naturally) to rebrand and re-establish their historic identities.

I recall visiting Task Force Alpha HQ in Soltau in 1979 or 1980. The Superintending Clerk (WO1 Stan Sherriff RAOC) showed me his ‘secret’ store of Desert Rat memorabilia including rolls of silk woven Formation Signs. He said he was holding on to this material for the inevitable resurrection of the 7th Armoured Brigade ‘The Desert Rats’.
A year or so later he was right!

22nd Armoured Brigade was previously briefly Task Force Bravo originally 11th Armoured Brigade.

I recall a number of people having the blue shield with the yellow axe badge on their combat jackets in the 80s .

That would be HQ Northern Army Group a NATO formation which included 1st British Corps and was colocated with HQ BAOR.

Yes a NATO unit sitting above 1 BR Corps so different rules applied.
