HAC w/m non a/a with slider
Hi All,
Can anyone find reference to a w/m HAC fused grenade? I see nothing in K&K vols I or II. It's the leftmost badge in both pictures. I show it alongside the a/a badge I used to wear with No. 2 dress to illustrate the difference. It is a very bright, hard w/m but there are no hallmarks or manufacturers' marks on the back. The only w/m fused grenades I can see online are sweetheart's brooches, but this has a slider. Any ideas? Thanks as always, Tom |

It looks like the badge is plated, so possibly a yellow metal one originally?
(I Have a W/M with brass slider). |

They were originally brass and had to be "dipped" before the new colour was issued.
[To be dipped to match the new white metal pattern List of Changes C6380 Jan 1955. Marc

Post no. 6 in this thread mentions the white metal badges:

The only W/M one I have, picked up in Broadstairs in 1998.
My notes only mention Gaylor stating that badges changed to W/M in 1954, K&K not showing W/M only silvetr anod. al. and K&K stating W/M grenade with Y/M "HAC" for NCOs was sealed 9/3/54. |

This is interesting. Forgive my ignorance but I didn't quite follow the "the new white metal pattern List of Changes C6380 Jan 1955". Can you expand on this a bit (as if to a small, backward child ) |

Fascinating! Maybe when the a/a badges came in they dipped the whole supply rather than put up with the shiny shiny crap! (Apologies to a/a lovers everywhere)

When the white metal version, which is slightly small in depth, was introduced by List of Changes 31st January 1955, Change 6360, the Gun Metal version Pattern number 9022, catalogue number CB 1300 was declared obsolete. The existing stocks will dipped under arrangements made by Commandant, Branston, to approximate the white metal version CB 1877.
