There won't be any official word! Admiralty Order No. 2 of June 1914 stated 'The badge of an eagle will be worn by members of the R.N.A.S. ...'
The wing of the Royal Flying Corps has never in any official document been described as being those of a swift, although there is a file in the Public Records Office which shows designs etc and included is a page from a book showing the swift and its wings, which is why the flying badge of the Royal Flying Corps has more elegant, elongated wings than those of the Royal Air Force (eagle).
