Its an 'angry ferret' type reproduction, sorry. Look for an example with a steel brooch pin fixing.

In my opinion both are true restrikes.
The lion rampant badge on loops was worn post war and in my belief has been restruck from the original die. What I regard as genuine badges are found on longer loops, with gold braze and have crisp reverse detail around the tablet whereas the restrikes are inferior in this respect of strike and are on more modern and often shorter loops. |

It's fine for an example of what the Tyneside gunners wear now. If you don't want it then please don't throw it away.
from the Northern Gunners FB page: The Tyneside Scottish title is maintained by our 204 (Tyneside Scottish) Battery based at Kingston Park in Newcastle and our soldiers wear the Tam O ‘Shanter, Tyneside Scottish cap badge and red hackle with pride. Also worn by the Northumbria ACF Kingston Park (Tyneside Scottish) Cadets Last edited by Alan O; 11-09-22 at 06:51 AM. |

These badges are awash on eBay and other places, whilst they may be used now by a battery and cadet unit the numbers encountered and sellers themselves do I think show badges are being made purely for the collectors market.
As ever with badges sold by the repro sellers but also used in modernity I would personally want provenance a recently made poorly struck badge was issued and not one of the others made destined for the collectors market. By the same token where PRI shops have stocked Martin Marsh (fake die) badges for me the sale and wearing of a handful doesn’t not legitimise the die itself or every badge on the market. But, it would make such any repro actually worn in service a ‘genuine’ badge IMO. However I freely admit that is hobby preference and some may disagree and be content just to own an example. |
