Hello Keith et al.

You are right - This badge does appear to be very much a one off and may have provided a template for the Commando Association badge. As you say - no photographic proof of wear but the quality of the badge is a lot different from the post war examples. We also know Len's sources were exemplary - generally veterans. If only Len was with us now - greatly missed!

Regards

Mike

Jack

The version Keith has posted an image of is noted by Len as a wartime variant. It of superior construction and probably a 'one off'.

A very nice badge but the title 'COMMANDO' signifies that it is NOT a No.2 Commando badge but, instead, a badge from the Old Comrades Association of Special Service Brigade, later amended to the Old Comrades Association of Army Commandos, formed in June 43.
In 1948 the Committee decided that the Association may be referred to in correspondence and conversation by a shorter title - The Army Commandos Association.
In 1950, at the suggestion of the Association President, Brigadier Mills-Roberts, DSO, MC, the title was once again changed and became known as The Commando Association.

The Commando Association was Stood Down in 2005.

Hello Gents,

Great thread and I thought I would share another wartime 2 CDO badge. The badge is made from a knife or a fork and still has the manufacturers stamps on the rear amongst the two lugs.

Thanks for sharing Paul,

I know this badge well as I discovered it many years ago and eventually sold it to a very good friend/forum member. One of my favorite badge of all time.

Congratulations on having this super and unique example in your collection.

Great to see again.

Cheers, Roy.

Hello Paul

Lovely variant - always good to see different examples, thanks for posting.

I have one very similar example that formed part of a presentation frame to Major General Sturges.

Please excuse the quality of the image ... the frame has remained sealed since I got hold of it. I therefore do not know if it is marked on the back ... but a historical piece, which I hope is of interest.

Regards

Mike

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing you rare commando badge.
It's an old post but I was wandering if you could share a photo of the rear. I have not seen any on the internet and would like know what to look for if one day I have the chance to see one.
Best
