Default 17th Lancers czapka plate

Purchased at auction the czapka plate with a copper? base with a silver attached regimental insignia and Crimean honours.

I was surprised (probably due to my ignorance) to see a plate with only the honours for Crimea.

Any information as to date or use or……

Much appreciated

Thanks

No Expert on czapka plates but i do have David Rowe and William Carman`s excellent book on Lancers Head dress. I believe the plate you have is an all brass other rnaks first used in 1856 but changed in 1879 to add 6 South Africa battle honours. It would be interesting to see the rear of the plate as well.
kind regards Dave

Default Back of plate

99% sure the backing plate is copper and without question the regiment/honours in silver or silver plated.
Is a separate piece held to the plate with multiple pins bent over to hold it in place

Original picture not clear from the front and looks brass so assumed a single piece plate. With the applied panels to the front this would be an officers badge though from the same period as mentioned previously.

Default 17th plate

This is most interesting i have only seen one of these plates to date which i have and its a other ranks. Yours is in the style of an officers could you get some good clear pictures of the rear and the pins please.
I think these may be the first post 1856 plates or plates made by another firm as the skull is different to other plates.

Best Mac
