17th Lancers czapka plate
Purchased at auction the czapka plate with a copper? base with a silver attached regimental insignia and Crimean honours.
I was surprised (probably due to my ignorance) to see a plate with only the honours for Crimea. Any information as to date or use or…… Much appreciated Thanks |

Back of plate
99% sure the backing plate is copper and without question the regiment/honours in silver or silver plated.
Is a separate piece held to the plate with multiple pins bent over to hold it in place |

Original picture not clear from the front and looks brass so assumed a single piece plate. With the applied panels to the front this would be an officers badge though from the same period as mentioned previously.

17th plate
This is most interesting i have only seen one of these plates to date which i have and its a other ranks. Yours is in the style of an officers could you get some good clear pictures of the rear and the pins please.
I think these may be the first post 1856 plates or plates made by another firm as the skull is different to other plates. Best Mac |
