Tony,

Very interesting, picture attached of officer also wearing a collar badge as a cap badge.

Not really.
There are a number of photographs (of officers and ORs) wearing collar badges on their caps. In 1893 the WO authorised collar badges could be worn in the new FSC - until 'proper' cap badges arrived. Absence of the right badge was overlooked in theatre / 1st WW as it was in the 2nd WW too - and beyond.

(but I'm not going to pay a tenner for it !)

I meant Peters coloured photo with the officer choosing to wear a collar badge facing the wrong way, rather than just wearing a collar badge which I know was not uncommon.

Yes Simon, I hadn't fully registered that it was the wrong collar badge ! More interesting is that the 'photo must post-date 15.06.1915 (promotion to Capt).
The badges in his collars are the regular 1895 Pattern whereas that on his cap is an 'unofficial' one (dated 1895) worn (by 2nd Bn) on Foreign Service. But I see that he was in the 7th Bn, so certainly bizarre......
