Early 1st King's Dragoon Guards badge?
Does anyone know anything about the large bronze eagle without the scroll mentioned below and shown in the attachment (from the DNW archive)?
Their caption reads: 1st King’s Dragoon Guards Officer’s Cap & Collar Badges 1898-c1950. An extremely fine and rare selection comprising the first pattern cap badge in die-stamped bronze, being the very large double-headed eagle of Austria, the shield with central ‘FJI’ cypher, the ensuing pattern again in die-stamped bronze, smaller eagle with tri-part title scroll, one all gilt die-cast collar badge from the same period, the cap badge, c1915, KC star pattern in die-cast bronze with silver and bronze central mounts ‘K/DG’ within the Garter Proper (1 blade fastener lacking), a pair of matching collars in die-cast metals by ‘Firmin London’, a pair of HM silver and enamel collar badges from the same period by JR Gaunt & Sons Birmingham 1934, the restored Eagle pattern in HM die-cast silver by JR Gaunt & Sons Birmingham 1942 and a non-matching pair of collar badges, one stamped ‘Sterling’ the other ‘P’, all fasteners present except where stated Is it similar to badge referred to in KK Vol1 under "Cavalry Full-Dress Devices" On the puggaree, the Austrian Eagle in gilt or gilding metal. Thanks for that.
The badge is about the right size for an arm badge or frock coat badge measuring 50 mm high x 41 mm wide as an estimate from DNW's photograph. It is just odd that they call it an early bronze cap badge. Is the article about KDG arm badges or does it include other early badges? Bill |
