Hello John, yes it’s a curious thing. I don’t think that the change over was universal, it was more of a trend. The only thing that I’m certain of is that the round end numeral style had French origins.

The quality is dreadful on this badge IMHO, look at the lettering. Its all over the place, i'd love to see the back ?

I have 22 various Head dress badges and belt clasps to the 63rd Foot.

17 have rounded 3's and only 5 have flat topped 3's.
