New Midwestern Collector
Hello
I've collected militaria in general for about 25 yrs, as I started at about 10 with a US Army coat button, but I've only branched out beyond the US in the last few years and into UK/Commonwealth in the last couple months with half a dozen Canadian badges. I've built military models even longer than I've collected militaria, so the history and the insignia aren't completely new to me. The specifics of this area of collecting are the uncharted bit. I found this site while researching and thought it looked like a lively and knowledgeable place, so I signed up. The six that have drawn me here are: PPCLI- slide? back (the tang/clip style; marked 9ct.) Grey and Simcoe For.- slide ("Breadner 85") RC Army Service Corps- cotter-type back Laval U COTC- Cotter-back RC Engineers- Cotter-back Canada Forces- pegs/pins ("W. Sully") I'd welcome any reading suggestions or recs to add to my library. Mine's currently US centric with one Third Reich book I picked up ridiculously cheap as a model figure reference close to a decade ago. Tips on storage/curation are also welcome. I came to learn and maybe share knowledge someday. Thanks, CDW |

Thanks so much. Those sorts of lists are a boon to a novice. The Gaylor book on collecting badges looks like a good place to start. I shall have to see about getting one here in the states. Something more Canadian specific can come later. I'd rather spend money on good books than bad militaria.
