HYDERABAD ??? BADGES FOR i.d.
I've just come across a whack of crudely cast brass shoulder titles in a box. The first few, from which I cleverly deduced a common conection are: 1HI, ‘2HI’ , ‘2 Hyderabad’, ‘6 Hyderabad’ , ‘7th Hyderabad’ & ‘8 Hyderabad’. below are the rest, some with tentative or very tentative identifications. Any and all input appreciated.
‘CTC’ - ??? Transport Corps? ‘HAES’ - ??? ‘HAFC’ - ??? ‘HAOC’ – Hyderabad Army Ordnance Corps 'HASC' – Hyderabad Army Service Corps 'HITC' – Hyderabad I??? Transport Corp 'HMVS' - ??? - a variant on the 'MVC' recently discussed? 'JNM' - ??? 'NNJ' - ??? '3NOI' – 3rd Nizam’s Own Infantry ? 'N1SI' – Nawanagar or Nizam’s ??? ??? 'NSI' – Nawannagar Shastrashalya Infantry ? ‘PAIGAH’ [family name of the Nizam’s of Hyderabad] - ??? |

Hi Peter,
I don't know if all these Hyd badges are the real thing..Some dealers seem to have lots of them and while some are finely cast most of them are of very poor quality. There must be scores of Hyd badges to every dept of the state. You see them very often in India and they are not really rare, but these are the 'Chapras' badges - huge ones 10 mm or more in size - most of them of very good quality and genuine. Funnily enough most of the Hyd army and police badges I see are of inferior quality. I wonder why?? There is a nice book on 'Chapras' badges by Praful Thakkar that you should get your hands on... |

Thanks for that link, Khyber. A surprising number of the modern Pak Army badges are of poor quality and some Indian stuff I believe to be genuine as well, but I have no problem beleiving they are modern fakes either. I literally found them in a box and don't even remember acquiring them - at least 20-25 years ago now - so they owe me nothing.
If I got L1 apiece I'd be L25 ahead, as I now prefer to 'collect' photos and information and spend my money on travelling and re-enacting kit. I'll check out the link, though, and keep my eyes open for the book. Where/when was it published? Thanks again! |

Badge ID
Peter,
I can ID the following: CTC = Cavalry Training Centre (1935); Combined Training Centre (1946-48). HAES = Hyderabad Army Engineer Services. HAFC = Possibly Hyderabad Army Forage Corps. HITC = Hyderabad Infantry Training Centre. HMVS = Hyderabad Military Veterinary Service. JNM = Jamiat Nizam Mahbub (Maisram Regiment). (A regiment made up of Arabs and Afghans). HASC = As stated. HAOC = As stated. 3NOI = 3 Bn, Nizam's Own Infantry. PAIGAH = 1st Infantry, NSKJ (Nawab Sir Khurshid Jah) Paigah. (Paegah and Paigah spellings are used for different regiments. I will see if I can further ID the outstanding titles. Let me know if you decide to move these on. Thanks. George |

Thank you, George! In fact, I will probably get rid of them - see above for how I spend any extra cash these days - so if you're interested I'm sure we can work something out. I'll PM you, if I can work out how!
