Default 1st South African Division RA flashes???

A recent purchase: a couple of cloth formation sings as per pictures. My (and the seller's) guess is that they could be 1st South African Division Artillery, but the Divisional device was a Diamond, not a square, whereas the red and blue divided square could also be an Engineer insignia.... your help and knowledge is very much wanted and appreciated here, gentlemen!

Loupie

The SAA artillery in WW2 wore the normal SAA flash blue with red zigzag. Have not seen a combo like this. Is the colour green, as on my PC it looks like it could be a blue?

Sorry not much help.

Brian

Hi,
These are shoulder flashes of the Railways and Harbour Brigade (combination of Infantry and engineers). I have only seen these worn post war up until they were disbanded in 1951. They may have been worn earlier as one of the pith helmet flash charts indicates them to be pre war R&HB but I have not seen photographic evidence of this. Note that the compilation of the chart was done post war, so the confusion may have arrisen with the compiler at the time.

If they dont form part of your collecting interest and want to pass them on, I would be interested to add to my railway collection.

Here are two pictures of R&HB wearing the arm flash. These are from 1947.
