Default Hello!!

Hello all, I've been dipping in and out of your forum for some time now so I thought it was about time to take the plunge and register.

I'm Al, a serving REME Armourer and I'm an avid collector of the Hammer & Pincer (/Tongs) trade badge. I've been researching the badge for some time now and have amassed a fair few from across the Commonwealth.

I've attached my current collection, hope it works as the pics are large, if any of you out there have any additions you'd like to part with please let me know!

Hello Al,

You have evidently been working hard at amassing that little lot. Dare I say you've been going at it hammer and...

...perhaps not.

Welcome aboard, mate.

Peter.

Gents, many thanks for a warm welcome to the forum. GGA, I spotted your vast collection of proficiency badges in the gallery and wondered how you display them all? I've contemplated framing mine but I always find another to add to it.
Any suggestions?

Welcome Al,

Would you know the reason behind the variation of Tongs on Hammer handle and Hammer handle between the Tongs handles?

Most of the items in my Proficiency Badge Collection album http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...hp?albumid=588
are mounted on A4 size black paper covered cardboard and stored in plastic sleeves in a filing cabinet drawer!
As you have found additional items turn up and reorganisation and extra boards are needed.

Tim

Tim, many thanks, I've looked at the "justincase" webiste and thought of pinning them into cases that I can open and reshuffle. Idea has failed first wife approval though so they remain in Ferrero Rocher boxes in the bottom drawer, I'll have to wait until she wants something from Ikea and start bartering!

Marc, I gather there were dozens of manufacturers of badges during WW2 some approved, many not, so the design was made slightly differently by each company. The "original" GM badge has the hammer beneath the pincers but the BD variants on board 3 are mixed between overlaying and threaded. The modern NZ badges on the bottom row of board 4 are threaded but the current British has them overlaying, so I can only assume that when stricter standardisation came along one variant one picked to be the master?
