Boots and Saddles (Ray Collins)
There are very few things in life that can touch your heart so deeply, and mean as much to you as your own flesh and blood, but when it does you are eternally grateful for having the opportunity.
I was fortunate enough to have that experience and will treasure it always. Having said that it is with very heavy heart and tear filled eyes that I have to leave this notice informing you that Ray Collins (Boots and Saddles) passed away suddenly on Monday March 22nd. Ray enjoyed his time here in this forum and made many friends along the way. While I know a little about his collection, there is a lot more that I still need to know. There may be a time in the near future that I will call upon this forum and ask for assistance and hope that you will all afford me the same time and consideration that you did Ray. As I’m sure you can imagine this is a very difficult time for the family and his collection is not a priority with us, please do not be alarmed if you see us sign in under either his name or this newly created one to gather more information. Though I am only Ray’s son-in-law, the things that he has taught me over the years have been invaluable and only hope that you had the opportunity to learn a few things from him. Sadly, John |

I'm sure like many members here, to hear of Ray's passing was a shock, I have been holding off posting this hoping it was a sick-joke (no offence to the member who posted the news), or a misunderstanding......But it seems my hope was in vain. Ray and I were not "best friends" or very close aquaintances, but like every member of this forum, even with our disagreements (we all have them, you'll never get away from it), I considered him a 'mate' (We after all share a common interest and hobby). Ray was always helpful, even to a wally like me, and he seemed a thoroughly decent bloke.
Well enough of my ramblings; I send my deepest sympathy's and condolences to his family, you are in my prayers and thoughts. John, I'm sure every member here will lend a hand with any questions you may have. Regards, Thomas |

Hi John and family
Very sorry to hear of Ray's passing. I found out through the forum that he was a fellow piper, which being South African, I would never otherwise have learnt. I will play a lament for him when I get my pipes out again. Best regards, Alex |
